Maya 2018 move, rotate and scale tool not working.

Hello everybody,

I recently bought a computer with a Intel Core i7 CPU. I just installed Maya 2018 and move, rotate and scale tool doesn't seem to work. I checked my preferences and it is all set to viewport 2.0 with rendering engine to OpenGL-Core Profile (Compatibility). Any suggestions?

Hi @Anonymous and welcome to the community1

This wouldn't be a processor issue.

What GPU are you using and do the drivers match our certified hardware list?

You can find our certified hardware list here!

Dear Mr Heasley,

Thank you for your prompt answer. My CPU is NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT which I do not see in the list of the tested Nvidia.

Hi @Anonymous

Your GPU is a bit on the weak side and may be causing this issue.

You'll want to check to see if your drivers are up to date and change your rendering engine to DirectX if that is possible.

If none of that helps then this is most likely a compatibility issue and you could try an older version of Maya like 2017 or 2016 but there is not guarantee that will work unless the card is on the certified list.

Dear Mr Heasley,

I changed my settings to DirectX11 and I got the error " Failed to apply color management settings on file open: Failed to finalize the colour transform "  and on the Script Editor that "the GPU adaptor of the transform to finalize is null ", but after a while I was able to move, rotate and scale!  So, in my first chance I will change my GPU.

Thank you very much for your help and time.

Kind regards,

Katerina Valma

Hi @Anonymous

Great!

You can also fix those errors by setting the following Environment Variables either through a system variable or through the maya.env file found in the preferences folder:

  • MAYA_CM_DISABLE_ERROR_POPUPS=1
  • MAYA_COLOR_MGT_NO_LOGGING=1
    • On Windows, locate your .env file by navigating to C:\Users\USERNAME\Documents\maya\VERSION\Maya.env
    • Clicking on the file will open a blank document (unless you have other variables set). Copy and paste the above variables into the file and re-save
