Maya 2018 graph editor glitching problem

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hello,

So I am a student using the student version on my computer. Apparently students don't have customer support, so I am stuck... My graph editor looks like this (see attachment) on any key. I have re-installed, installed 2 patches, rebooted my computer...all to no avail. I really need help and I don't know what to do. In 2016 my graph editor works fine, but in 2018 my lines are all over the place, creating impossible arcs. I need to edit my graph for school and make it do infinity, but because it looks like this, it throws everything off...

Thanks!

Hi @Anonymous and welcome to the community!

Are you opening a file from 2016 in 2018? Did you save in ascii (.ma) format before opening it?

When you get a chance, can you please zip and attach the scene file here or via dropbox/google drive or another file sharing program so I can take a look at it?

Let me know if anything changes!

Hi @sean.heasley,

I have opened a 2016 file in 2018, but this also happens when I create a brand new file and simply animate a cube translating. Below is the graph for a new file moving a cube...

Here is the link to my practice NEW file saved as both Binary and Ascii: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1taFpKbbXdB5f5APPY_a0C8cYXD8Ubw1r

Thanks!

Also, I want to note, I downloaded and installed Maya 2018 on my desktop and it is normal... It is just my Dell laptop that is doing this...

Hi @Anonymous

I opened it fine with no issues so it looks like it may be something with your Maya and/or your GPU.

Have you tried deleting your settings/preferences?

Also, what GPU are you using and what driver version is it?

Let me know if anything changes!

Hey @sean.heasley,

So I will be honest, I know this computer isn't the best for Maya, but it DID/still does work in 2016. I think the screenshots attached show the information about my computer and graphics card... I did delete the preferences too when I deleted everything when I uninstalled it and then reinstalled it. I don't know how to troubleshoot Maya to fix it...

Thanks.

Hi @Anonymous

Yeah this isn't the most powerful machine but like you said Maya should still be able to run.

I understand you uninstall and reinstalled Maya, but this doesn't always reset the settings/preferences so you may want to manually try deleting your settings/preferences.

Also, when you uninstalled, did you perform a clean uninstall/reinstall of Maya? If not you may want to try that.

Finally you may want to check to make sure your GPU drivers are up to date.

Steps to update your drivers can be found here!

What version of Maya are you using? Base 2018 or updated?

Cheers,
Mike

Hi Mike,

I just saw the header of my Maya shows: Autodesk Maya 2018-Student version untitled*. Do you know where can I check it's Base 2018 or updated? Thank you!

And here's my computer specification, but I don't think it's the reason of the problem since my other functions such as modeling seems usual now.

When you launch Maya it’ll say in the bottom left corner of the splash screen. Otherwise, Help > Product Information I think. It’s one of the options in the help menu.

If it doesn’t say Update 1 or 2, you’re using the base release.

Cheers,
Mike

Hi @Anonymous

You can go to About->About Maya to see what version you are on.

Also, are you having the same issue where you are opening an older scene file in 2018 or is this all happening in a file you made in 2018?

Hi,

May I ask one more question? Although my graph editor looks normal, I couldn't manipulate the handle(There are two handles when you click on the key frame) to adjust the curve of each key frame in graph editor now. do you ever have the same problem? Thanks!
