Maya 2018 and 2017 not opening (NO ERRORS)

Hello Maya Users and Admins,

I would like to ask about what should I do when Maya 2018/2017 is not opening at all. And yeah, the problem is too hard to be solved because first of all there is no errors popping-up on my system. Usually when there is an error it would pop-up like the normal error form, right? But this is totally different.

Before we can use Maya 2013, 2017 and 2018 smoothly and no problem at all; after the installation of Maya 2018 (it runs smoothly with no errors) but this past few days we encounter a tough problem because it really won't open but can open on other PCs.

Here are the procedures I have done just to fix the issue but to no avail:

- Restart the System

- Uninstall and Reinstall the Maya 2018 / 2017 (5 times already)

- Reset Maya Version (Resetting Guide from Autodesk website)

- Opening it on Safe Mode (booted up on Windows Safe Mode)

Please help me about this.

Without some kind of error message it is a bit more difficult to identify what could be going wrong but we might be able to get more info

-When you try to start Maya do you see any windows at all? (f yes

-If you see the splash screen does it disappear right away to does it stay around showing what is loading?

-If you get past the splash screen do you see the Maya UI at all?

Other possibilities is that a recent update to Windows has stopped Maya from from functioning correctly. I would first try uninstalling & reinstalling the Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Libraries. Follow the steps outlined in this link below. It's for AutoCAD but the steps are the same except where to find the libraries that come with Maya

C:\Autodesk\Autodesk_Maya_2018_EN_JP_ZH_Win_64bit_dlm\3rdParty\x64\VCRedist

C:\Autodesk\Autodesk_Maya_2018_EN_JP_ZH_Win_64bit_dlm\3rdParty\x86\VCRedist

Thanks for replying to this post.

Here are my answer to your questions:

"-When you try to start Maya do you see any windows at all? NO

(f yes

-If you see the splash screen does it disappear right away to does it stay around showing what is loading?

-If you get past the splash screen do you see the Maya UI at all?

)

"

The mouse cursor only shows that it loads (the circle loading around the cursor) then nothing at all.

I already uninstalled and installed libraries (C++ 2010,2012,2015 and 2017 both x64 and x86 architectures)

I also uninstalled the whole Maya software especially the 2018 version, and installed it again for I don't know many times up to date.

And then right now, I tried our previous Maya 2013 installer and it works well.

Hi @Anonymous

Can you check Task Manager to see if Maya appears when you launch it? You'll want to look for two things.

  • Does it appear for a moment then vanish?
  • Does it appear and stay there but you still don't see the splash art or output window?

Please let me know when you get a chance!

Hi Autodesk,

I managed to fix the problem but it is not really good but it fixed the problem.

I insert a new hard drive and install NEW CLEAN WINDOWS 7 and install Maya 2018 and it works fine.

Thanks!

I have this same issue and do have the option of reinstalling everything. Maya does not even show up in the Task Manager.

Check %TEMP% for MayaCLM log files. Was one created when you tried to start Maya?

If it was me, I'd run Process Monitor to see what's happening.

Hi @sean.heasley

I have same problem as you described

  • Does it appear for a moment then vanish? Yes it does
  • Does it appear and stay there but you still don't see the splash art or output window?   )

Can you tell me what to do in this case?

Thanks!

Hi @Anonymous

What are the hardware specs of your machine?

Steps to find your pc specs can be found here!

Also what GPU are you using and are the drivers up to date?

Steps to update your drivers can be found here!

Finally, a quick fix you can try is to perform a clean uninstall/reinstall of Maya.

Let me know if anything changes!

So I did clean uninstall/reinstall of Maya. and now the icon of maya appears and stays like something loading but nothing actually happens .

My hardware; Core i7 -7700HQ , 16GB ram, 64-bit, GPU geforce gtx 1060

And yes my drivers are up to date!

And also around 2 month ago I did not had this problem and suddenly it become like this.

Hi @Anonymous

Our officially supported driver for your 1060 is version 388.43.

So you may want to try uninstalling that driver and install version 388.43 which can be found here!

If that doesn't work, can you think if there were any major updates to your OS or anti-virus/firewall that may be blocking Maya?

You'll also want to make sure Maya isn't being blocked by windows defender or your firewall etc.

Steps to check that can be found here!

Hi @Anonymous

I'm just checking in again to see if you need more help with this. Did the suggestion I provided yesterday work for you?

@sean.heasley
Maybe the possible errors could occur from GPU itself. But different people can come up with the same problem but different cause. Maybe because of different specifications of their builds. So I will just accept your solution as it also helped me before. I tried to install an specific version of drivers of my AMD and Nvidia cards.

But I don't know about @Anonymous if it really fixed his/her problem.

For me it does not stay in the task manager, and I have definitely tracked this down to something locking the Licensing program. A repair/reinstall always fixes it for me.

We just ran into this problem at our company. We finally found that one of the config files is locked at ~/.config/Autodesk/ on Centos. We removed the lock file and it worked perfectly. This may have been due to a previous crash that didn't remove the lock correctly. No need to re-install maya.

In response to your question here, I'm not getting the splash screen at all, but Maya is showing up in the Task Manager and staying there.

Please help.

Maybe there is no physical disk drive like this SSD before happened to start not loading the Maya. And some there are running works with HDD. But there are not loading with SSD. Try to clean and optimize the disk with the defragmentation tool and try to scan malware and anti-virus in it. Afterwise, it will start work to loading the Autodesk Maya. We enjoy it with you.
