I am using Maya 2016 SP6 and in the last month, Maya has crashed when I try to apply a material to any geometry or try to open the Hypershade. I am using 2016 because the project I am working on is using Mental Ray as the primary renderer.
Thanks for any help

Hi @Anonymous and welcome to the community!
What GPU are you using and does the driver match with our certified hardware list?
You can find our certified hardware list here!
Also, if you make a fresh scene and just try to open the Hypershade does the crash occur?
Finally, is there an error report generated when Maya crashes? If so please fill it out and let me know what the CER report number is!

I am using Maya 2015 on a Mac and that is exactly what is happening to me. When I open Hypershade and apply Lambert then doubleclick on it, it instantly crashes.
Hi @Anonymous
Awesome! Glad you're back up and running !

Every time I go to change the color of my object, like either going to the attribute editor, as soon as i click over to "lambert" it crashes with the error:
Hi @Anonymous
Thanks for posting your CER report number! I looked it up in our system and your crash is related to a known issue with Maya and Mojave OS which I assume you are running?
If so you can these by either rolling back to High Sierra OS, or upgrading to Maya 2018.5. Once there you'll just need to tweak a few settings.

Hi @Anonymous
You should be able to open the 2016 file in 2019 however once you save it you will most likely not be able to open it in 2016.
Generally its not recommended to change Maya versions mid project but if you are going to do that I recommend saving your scene in .MA format in 2016 then open that .MA file in 2019.
