Hello! I have a trouble with GPU in Maya. By default Maya starting with high performance GPU (GTX 860), but when i open Windows/Settings and Preferences/ GPU cache, there i see, in a hardware GPU: Intel HD 4600, how is possible, if everywhere set GTX860 by default to use for Maya 2017?

Hi @ilyaz14
How is Maya performing? Is it running like its using the integrated graphics?
It's possible that while Maya may say its using the integrated graphics, it is most likely pulling from your GPU.
If that's not the case you could use nVidia's Optimus software to force Maya to use your GPU.
Let me know if this helps or if you need more information!

Its performing like Maya dnt use a CUDA for Vray correctly, (with CPU render everything fine), when rendering, not render fog effects, light not properly, send a message about GPU memory, and what she cant show high quality textures on a hight poly (4 mln polygons) mesh, and slower fps when working with a selected mesh, so its HD 4600.
When i trying to install NVIDIA OPTIMUS DRIVER UPDATE, installation program showing the messege like "The installation program did not detect any drivers that are compatible with the installed hardware. Setup stops working"
Hmm, this is strange.
Are your GPU drivers up to date?
Also, out of curiosity, after setting Maya to run with the GPU over integrated, can you try to run Maya as an admin and see if that helps at all?
Let me know if anything changes!

The HP zBook had nVidia Optimus. It is supposed to detect when a graphics program is launched and direct it to the higher performance GPU, but it doesn't correctly detect OpenGL (in my experience). In the end we disabled it in the BIOS so the GPU was running all the time. You lose some battery life but since these workstations were primarily for 3D use it didn't make much difference.
Hi @djonesuk
That's odd, but did disabling it fix the issue?

Hi @djonesuk
I'm just checking in to see if disabling Optimus worked for you or if the issue is still occurring?

We have the same issue here and is only Maya who give us this issues at the studio.
For example we have a Quadro and we use the GTX for Rendering with Octane Render. the latest updates is using the GTX and doesn't allowed GPU rendering use the card. This fine because we don't use the Quadro but Maya "Always" force on the GTX and the fact is no really option on the preferences we have to hack with nvidia software to fix that and make Maya use the Quadro but after a bit of time of use Maya force again to take the GTX.
My Question why is not such simple option to chose for viewport which card Maya will use like any other package soft?
