Losing faces and polygons when using the modeling tools

Not sure if its a graphics card problem. All drivers are updated.

For instance when I go to use my extrude tool , I lose more than half of my visible polygons except for the edges which the edges are wonky whenever i do have my polygons . Below is a progression of what happens when i select faces of my model and then extrude. Once it goes to half wire frame i cannot undo so I'm thinking it is a view port problem maybe? Any suggestions?

@mspeer Sorry My replies were not going through earlier

I have a Lenova Legion Y720

  • GeForce GTX 1060 6 GB GDDR5
  • Intel Core i7 7th Gen 7700HQ (2.80 GHz)
  • 16 GB Memory 1 TB HDD 512 GB PCIe SSD

I have the geforce experience app so I keep my drivers updated .

I usually experience flicking and a messed up maya viewport causing me to save my work and restart Maya.

I utilize the faculty /student version of Maya 2017

Hi!

No file attached.

- Update graphic card driver (maybe just re-install after an OS update), or
- downgrade graphic card driver.
- Try different Viewport modes (in Preferences).
