File size keeps increasing

Im trying to modify a .STL file from 3dLabPrint so i can fit my FPV camera into the canopy of the plane. Ive successfully imported the file, removed all the internal structural members and have been saving the file every few hours. Ive noticed the following issues:

1) The file size keeps getting larger even though im deleting things / used the Reduce function to take it from Tris > 30k to Tris < 20k

2) Its starting to take 1 minute to use the Append Polygon or Delete Edge/Vertex tool.

Ive been saving the file as a .mb

My PC spec:

i7 3800 3.6Ghz

64gig ram

windows 10 pro

any idea?

Good morning, i've attached the version before i reduced the polygon count as it didnt change the file size. There are still a few internal faces i havent deleted because it started freezing.

Thanks very much for your help, appreciate it.

You're a legend, thanks very much.

If you dont mind me asking, could you make a suggestion as to how you would go about thickening the frame of the cockpit so i can go away and learn how to do it, as its just a single layer at present and wont be strong enough.

Sorry for what will likely be a rookie question, but its creating a hole on the opposite side. I tried appending a polygon to that face but it wont let me. How do you fill the hole?

you can´t extrude just parts of a single sided model without getting the hole because you would create nonmaifold geometry. in that case it means you would create edges which share more than 2 faces. that´s also the reason why you can´t just close the resulting hole. so either you thicken the whole model or you extract the parts of the frame you try to thicken.
