Hello,
object mode, select geo and try to shift select next geo. Miss this because to small.
Next thing Maya is doing: adding edgeloops.
Really, strange... I added edge loops, change to Movetool (W) to adjust Vertecies. Deselect the geo to see if there are still some misshapes.
Select the geo again and the next thing: edge loops are getting added.
