Hi @Anonymous

There's a handful of ways to do this but I find the easiest way is using the Snap Together Tool
This can be found under Modify->Snap Together Tool.

This video also shows this tool and a handful of other ways to achieve this.

Another way to do it is using the Deform->ShrinkWrap function of maya. Or if you are interested in aligning an object to another on creation you can use Modify->Make Live feature. Maya has so many features, I am sure there are another 10 possibilities 😉

This solution is way to slow and not interactive enough.   Pointing and clicking isn't very useful compared to the blender approach.      Normal constraint and Geo Contraint are promising..  but are to annoying to set up and use quickly.     In blender all you do is select the object and hold control and move.   It will snap to surface and align with the normals as you move around.

If you make the base object 'Live' and then move your objects, they should snap to the surface. They won't rotate, like with the snap tool, but it works pretty well for most things.

He's right though, too many clicks in Maya for such a simple task, Blender beats by far on this one.

Pass it to Devs Sean, thanks

Agreed. I'd love it to be a true 'on surface' snap.

MAYA 2024 and it still hasn't been switched to a 'True snap on surface" tool.
