How to make selection THROUGH the model?

Is there a way in Maya to make a selection with a Marquee or any way in which it would select everything selected and even in the back of the model and up and down///something like an edge loop selection? Because I always have to click around and hold shift and it takes like huge amount of time.

I tried all options in selection tool and nothing works. I just wanna be able to select more than what I see in viewport. Like X Ray selection. I don't even know how to explain/. in Cinema 4D they have that where selection can be made all through the model as if your marquee or lasso is going throught it and selecting. Does Maya have this feature ?

Hi @kapetanovicvanja

I'm a little bit confused by your issue.

Maya does have a marquee selection that will select everything within the box when you click and drag be it faces, edges, verts etc.

When you get a chance, can you please come back with more information and/or screenshots of your issue so I can assist you further?

Hi!

Yes, this can be done.

The combination of different settings for Selection + Viewport drawing mode (like Wireframe) +  BackfaceCulling modes, results in different selection behaviors.

Please post your settings (screenshot(s)) for further help.

Hi guys, thanks for your help. Here's the video of what I mean. I am trying to select HALF of this sphere. There should be a setting that allows me to do so with dragging a rectangle over a sphere and that's it. As of now I gotta go in and select poly by poly which is ok in this case but what if I have a 2000 poly object.

Thank you

Hi,

You have "Automatic camera-based selection enabled in the select tool".

This option ties the selection behaviour to your display mode so it will select what is visible in shaded mode and select through the model in wireframe mode. With this option enabled you would have to switch to wireframe (using the 4 hotkey) to select through the model.

If you turn that off the auto option then you can control select-through behaviour using the "Camera-based Selection" option under Marquee.

brentmc Thank you very much. I am new to Maya and coming from other 3D softwares it's always a bit challenging. That did it. Exactly what I was looking for. Appreciate your thorough input.
