Hi!

Maya files from student versions will show a popup window before you can open the scene.

The popup can be turned off if the file is a .ma, but the file itself has internal markers that can be read, and not changed.

what about fbx?

and for example if I export that fbx from Maya student

Import on Blender, Export from blender,

Import to lightwave, export

Import to blender

Shouldn't that delete all metdata of the fbx?

looks like you are trying desperately to find a way to sell your models made with a student version.

It would be wiser to stick to the rules and get to work.

You can always get into subscription and then later when your models are better you can put them for sale.

The thing is I already make really HQ models so I don't want to have to redo them afterwards.

But I am still 16 and can't spend 1900$ yearly so I was thinking about patreon or donations for the free models on an ad free site

Hi!

I see and understand your problem, but as posted in your other thread it's not OK.

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/maya-forum/donations-for-free-models/td-p/8101864

Keep in mind that the models you have already created where not intended to be sold, they are just a side product of your training. You already agreed to the limited usage of the student version. If you do not agree anymore you should stop using this software/license.

My recommendation:

Just rent Maya for one month and create one or more models and see if it's profitable for you.

I don't know how long you use Maya now, but in general after some time modeling speed and quality increases drastically, based on the experience you got with the educational version, so this is something you should really try out.

This industry is all about your reputation. Starting out this way isn't going to do you any favors. Yeah, Autodesk is a big company, but they are made of people trying to make a living, just like you.

Think about it this way; you make a really great model, takes you a whole week and it has hundreds of parts. You sell one copy, for 10$. That guy then sends that model to all of his friends, and you never sell another one.

Feels bad, yeah?

I agree with @damaggio; rent the software for a month and make enough money to keep renting it, or switch to a free modeling software until you have enough money to rent Maya.

bumping this in case anyone in the future asks this.

ima be honest your probably gonna want to bite the bullet and learn blender.

i made the switch last year just before i had an insane indie development adventure thats still going strong now. wouldn't have been possible without blender.

to make things easier if you do decide to switch; model something in Maya that uses everything you know but document all the techniques you use in a note pad. then when you switch to blender after you get used to the controls (this is actually the hardest part but trust me within 2 weeks youll be alright) all youll need to do is just go through that check list.

maya is around 2k to get each year or 500 for an indie license. save that money and buy zbrush instead.

however blender has a decent sculpting tool as well that will get you by but nothing super high poly.

2k saved is 2k gained.
