ima be honest your probably gonna want to bite the bullet and learn blender.
i made the switch last year just before i had an insane indie development adventure thats still going strong now. wouldn't have been possible without blender.
to make things easier if you do decide to switch; model something in Maya that uses everything you know but document all the techniques you use in a note pad. then when you switch to blender after you get used to the controls (this is actually the hardest part but trust me within 2 weeks youll be alright) all youll need to do is just go through that check list.
maya is around 2k to get each year or 500 for an indie license. save that money and buy zbrush instead.
however blender has a decent sculpting tool as well that will get you by but nothing super high poly.
2k saved is 2k gained.
