File saving issue

Anonymous

Strange file extension added to my save. Firstly I will not be allowed to save (autosave still works for some reason thank god), then data is lost/moved and a strange extension added to the file type:

"File_Name.mba15468"

I have also attached a snip of the files.

Thankyou.

Hi @Anonymous

If you delete those numbers does the file still open?

Also, were there any crashes or errors while working right before this happened? Its possible the file itself and/or Maya was corrupted and that is why you are seeing those when saving.

If you create a new scene and save does the same thing happen? If so you might want to try deleting your settings/preferences and then launch Maya and try saving.

Hi,

Thanks for that....

The files open both with those extra numbers/letters and without. (When i remove them the icon changes back to a maya logo...)

The one file with all the data still seems intact (still contains all my animation) but all the other ones have lost that information.

No crashes or errors as such except when trying to save, it would say cannot save file, something that seems to be triggering it, i noticed, is if i am prompted to autosave and click cancel - from then on it seems to cause this to happen . The autosave would still work however - or at least always remained intact/uncorrupted.

Creating a new scene things seem to be back to normal.

Again, i have only encountered this a couple of times....but obviously worrying.

Thanks,

Petroc

Hi @Anonymous

Can you try exporting everything from the problem file to an FBX and then import that FBX into a new scene and try to save it?

The file is most likely corrupted in some way thats causing this saving issue since a new blank scene saves fine.

Hi!

Do you have a student license and you "Cancel" at the Student prompt?

I don't recommend this for any automated saving processes as this may break the operation at an adverse state, especially when using "Incremental Save".

Hi,

That must be it!

I do have a student licence and this occurs when i cancel the prompt during autosave. I will never cancel the prompt!:)

Thank you both for the help, nice to just know what the issue is.

While we are here may i ask whether you know what this warning message means? is it of serious consequence?

// Warning: Line 51.50 : Redeclaration of variable "$BBOX" shadows previous declaration at line 47. Previous value will be overwritten by explicit initializer.

Thank you

Hi!

In short, a variable is initialized again in the current Maya session.

Usually this is not a serious problem, so if there are not further errors you can ignore this.

However, if you are worried and this happens often, then you should try to find out what's causing this.
