Exporting animation clips seperately to Unity?

Hello Guys!

So I have a few animation clips I would like to use for my model that also work, but I wanted to change a few things like for example reversing the animation clip and since it was in Maya the easiest way, I did that.
That also worked, but now I have the problem that I don't know how to properly export it back to Unity. When I just select the skeleton with the animation included I just end up with an "Take 001" animation clip in Unity that apparently does nothing.

A description on how to do so would be appreciated a lot! x)

Hi @Anonymous and welcome to the community!

This video gives a great basic explanation of getting an animation from Maya into Unity!

For future reference, if you're just looking to reverse an animation in Unity, there should be either a setting that will allow you to play it backwards and/or you could use a script to simply play the animation backwards!

Please let me know if this helps or if you need any more assistance!

Thank you for the answer!

First I wanna say, unfortunately is editing already existing animations (like the one I use) not an option for me, because Unity simply doesn't want to let me edit them. I tried a few things I found in the internet about that, but nothing fixed it for me.. ;/
That's why I want to do it in Maya, even if it takes a bit more time.

So to the video: I tried it out but it also didn't work for me. I'm sure I just simply did something wrong though. That's why I would like to explain what I did as detailed as possible:

I had the model and the animations for this model in an .smd format and converted all of these in fbx files in blender.
Then I went only with the model and the idle animation to Maya, edited as I wanted to (playing it slower, higher Y position) and exported only the skeleton, since I already have the same model with textures in Unity.
I also named the file with "Anim" at the end, but when I imported it then to Unity I had again only an animation clip named "Take 001" that played no animation, even when I dragged my model into the preview.

I also want to point out that I never did set anything up before in Maya for the model I am working with or so.
(I'm working with a non-humanoid model)

Hi @Anonymous

Instead of trying to just export the skeleton, can you select export all out of Maya and import into Unity to see if that works?

Let me know if anything changes!

I tried it out and it worked, thanks a lot!
Even though I tried that out a while ago already, but apparently something was set up wrong in the export settings, but now it's fixed!

I appreciate the help. 🙂
