Duplicate Special doesn't work properly

Hey I'm new here, I'm working on an assignment where I need to duplicate the building's windows, duplicate special can copy and paste those windows quickly without me manually moving them to my desired positions, but for some reason, it doesn't work for me anymore, as the item that got duplicated is/are not showing on the screen. At least now I can still use normal duplicate to copy and paste the stuff that I needed.

Tried to do the same in a new scene and the problem still there sadly, here are the screenshots just in case if anyone needs them to find out the root of the issue.

Hi @Anonymous

If you look at the Outliner do you see new models appear when you hit duplicate special? If so that mean it is duplicating them but not moving them. If that's the case you could try increasing the value from 10 to something drastic like 100 so there should be a clear movement.

If that doesn't work, you'll want to try Freezing Transformations and then delete history on the objects before duplicating again.

Please let me know if anything changes!

Thanks for the reply, tho sadly I've tried what you said earlier on and it didn't work, the duplicated objects are still invisible for some really weird reason, both in the new scene (with a 1 x 1 x 1 cube) and an object that I made in that scene for school assignment. Yeah, the duplicated objects (via duplicate special) are in the Outliner, but they just won't appear in the viewport.

Hi @Anonymous

Can you check to see if you have any isolation enabled in your scene?

If that doesn't help, when you get a chance can you please zip and attach the scene file here or via dropbox/google drive or another file sharing program so I can take a look at it? If the file is confidential or under NDA please send it to me in a private message instead of posting it here.

I used to have the same problem, if you have an nVidia graphics card maya will work better on your computer if you change your settings to DirectX 11.

Window >Settings/Preferences > Preferences, select the Display category. Set the Rendering engine to DirectX 11

I changed it to DirectX 11 and sadly it still doesn't fix the problem, anyway thanks for your reply.

Thanks, I think I will send you the ZIP file with the scene and stuff to you in PM, cause it's confidential.

Oh yeah no worries, I did notice that after changing the rendering engine to DirectX 11, I closed and started it up again, but sadly it still duplicates empty objects when trying to duplicate anything via Duplicate Special. Even after frozen any object's transformation and deleted their history.

Are you sure that its not making the duplicates on top of the original objects? You should just use duplicate the whole row with CTRL+D and then just translate it from there.

Nah it's not unfortunately, tho yeah I should use Crtl + D as my alternative for now, at least that's still working for me for now, thanks.

Hi!

@Anonymous , @Anonymous and @sean.heasley.

With Scale values of [0 0 0] you will not see anything.

Scaling any object to 0 makes it infinite small, set Scale to [1 1 1] if you don't want to change size.

Oh darn, yeah seems like I accidentally changed the values for Scale to 0 at some point when duplicating my own stuff, but yeah huge thanks for reminding to change them back to 1, 1, 1, now it's working again!
