Dividing the mesh

I'm doing the UVMapping tutorial. I've gotten the arms and legs mesh extracted. When I try to extract the torso mesh, I get a message saying "Error: line 0: Polysurface5 has only one piece. Ignored."  I've included a screenshot that shows the message. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!

The vest is its on piece already sherif, there's nothing to be extracted, all you have to do is UV the vest , cut the seams and sew the correct seems again if necessary and unfold....the usual steps, should be very easy to do , is  a very simple object.

Good luck.

Even if the vest had been combined to the body previously , you could if you wanted extract as a separate model "as it was once"..or....you can select all the vest faces and UV map them with the mesh still combined to the body....off course separating the mesh would be a better option to keep things organized.

If I had half a brain, I would have realized that the vest was already done. Thanks!
