Display Issue Transform Gizmo gone

Hi,

I,ve been having this strange issue where the transform Gizmos (translation, rotation, scale) is not visible and its greyed out.

video link (where you can see the problem):

https://youtu.be/7Ty7wdY8YjY

its NOT a preferences setting . I had done some research and some people are having the same problem. Its VERY annoying.

Some times it helps to make "Panel"-"Tear off" - then the gizmo appears again and can be used as usual.

This issue is very annoying and its keeping me from "normal work". This should not happen!

Maya 2018, update 4, 64 bit

Win 10, 64 Bit

Any ideas how to solve this?

Hi @davidtorresmonteiro

Do you have any attributes/channels locked? Usually the gizmo will grey out when a values are locked so they can't be manipulated.

If no, you'll want to check your GPU driver version and make sure it matches with our certified hardware list.

You can find our certified hardware list here!

Let me know if anything changes!

Hello Sean,

Thanks but this is definetly a display problem.

I use a modern laptop with an Nvidia 1060 and 6 GB Vram and latest
drivers installed.

This is killing my productivity at the moment...

Is the forum there are other who reported the issue and they some people
could solve it changing the display prefs to "direct x" . That did not
help in my case .

Any more ideas?

Hi @davidtorresmonteiro

Thanks for that info!

While you may be on the latest driver for the 1060,  our officially supported driver version is version 398.82. When you get a chance, can you please uninstall your current GPU driver and install version 398.82 which can be found here!

Let me know how that goes for you!

Hi @davidtorresmonteiro

Sure thing!

When you get a chance, can you please zip and attach the scene file here or via dropbox/google drive or another file sharing program so I can take a look at it? If the file is confidential or under NDA please send it to me in a private message instead of posting it here.

Hi Sean,

Yes the problem is still there and happens randomly...

Here is a maya file that is causing this issue a lot. It happens quite randomly: sometimes the problem is there, sometimes its not.

It also happens with other scenes i am working on.

Maya 2018, update 4

windows 10, 64  bit. 16 Gigs Ram
Nvidia 1060 M, 6 Gb Vram

Do let me know if you find something to solve this annoying issue.

Thanks a lot

Hi @davidtorresmonteiro

Thanks for attaching the scene file!

I had no problems selecting the model, joints, bones or controllers and the gizmo was there and functioning as expected.

You can try resetting the manipulator:

1. Open Tool Settings (double click on Move Tool icon).

2. A) Move Settings -> Tweak Mode (uncheck), or

2. B) hit "Reset Tool" at the top of the window.

If that doesn't help you'll want to try a clean uninstall/reinstall of Maya.

Let me know if anything changes!

Hi!

@davidtorresmonteiro and @sean.heasley

This is a Viewport setting in the scene.

When you open the scene with "Execute script nodes" enabled, then the Manipulators will be disabled for the Viewport which leads to these strange display artifacts.

Enable in Viewport menu

Show -> Manipulators

(This does not happen if you import the scene or disable "Execute script nodes".)

Hello Sean,

i havent tried those solutions yet as the scenes that i am working on ow, are not showing the problem.

Ev i will do a reinstall because i think to have a "virgin" Maya would probably be good. Many scripts installed over the last weeks...

I will let you know!

Cheers, Dave

Hi!

Reinstalling Maya is not necessary, it will change nothing!

Your Viewport settings are saved with the Maya scene and you disabled Manipulators in Viewport before saving the file, that's all.

I really doubt that is the issue:

1 - the issue happens randomly from 1 min to the next in the same scene

2 - if that would be the case, Sean who i have sent my Maya file would have experienced the same thing (wich he didnt)

Hi @davidtorresmonteiro

@mspeer's steps are worth trying when you get a chance.

That said I'm glad you're not experiencing this issue currently but please update us here if it occurs again or if those steps don't help.

Hi!

1.  You say this feature (Show > Manipulators) disables at some point automatically in Viewport (in this scene) without using a Hotkey or changing the View and then you have to enable it manually again?

My suggestion, enable "Echo All Commands" in Script Editor and check what happened if this changes again.

If this happens only with this scene it's unlikely that reinstalling Maya or resetting preferences helps.

2. There are several reasons why it not happened to @sean.heasley, some of them i posted above.

Windows>Settings>Preferences>Manipulaters>Global Scale = Reset to 1

Try, this was my solution ,if it is the cause.

Just having this issue, but solved it by opening the Move tool settings and changing the Axis Orientation out of 'Normal' mode. The move gizmo never appears if you try to move in 'Normal' mode.
