Cannot get xgen to follow guides

hi, I'm taking a gnomon tutorial and I can't get my hair to stay with my guides. The more guides I add the wackier it gets. Clumping doesn't seem to solve the problem. I have 5 outer guides and i have 4 inner guides, I tried with more and less and the same problem keeps happening. Can anyone advise? Thank you.

Hello @kevincease,

I'm hoping to get a better idea as to your process per the tutorial you are running. I am assuming you're running legacy XGen per your screenshots rather than IGS (though I would suggest IGS)

  1. If so, when you create your description, make sure you're starting with guides.
  2. Go ahead and place those guides, as you did. By default, hair will be generated around those guides, the amount and range of generation can be tuned. You may want to reduce the density you're using just to see the individual impact better.
  3. Using the clump mod as an example, Select clump as a new modifier in the modifiers tab. This won't do anything yet, you'll need to first use the Set Guides button and reference the guides you've placed instead of using the generate option.
  4. Based on the hair style you're going for, I would probably suggest actually using several (or at least two) different descriptions to simplify the process (one for the longer hairs, one for the pulled back appearance. This also ensures that the guides do not interfere with different hair sets.

Apologies as this is a pretty basic rundown, if you could provide a series of the steps you are using I'd have a better idea of what may be happening.

Hello @kevincease,

I hope things are going well! If this was helpful, go ahead and "Mark as Solution". If not, just let me know! 🙂

This is a great answer to try however I came to a solution by adding many more guides all the way down the side and just kept the density map at the front of the head. The additional guides didn’t reach perfection but we are all satisfied. Thank you, I will try separate descriptions next time
