Can you tell why I cannot bevel this edge?

I'm not sure what's happening to this edge, which I cannot bevel. I can see there's something wrong when I double click it and it selects another edge that isn't part of the chain selection.

I'm just starting with Maya, so I'd appreciate some instruction on how to fix this.

Yeah I can’t see anything, best guess is topology error, you can zip

the file here for us to examine

Thanks! You're right... I deleted the face and made a bridge between the open edges to replace it and worked fine.
