Can't select objects

Hi,

sometimes, when I work a while in Maya, I suddenly can't select objects anymore, instead this menu opens (see pic). Normally I select an object with left click, but suddenly it doesn't work anymore, maybe I pressed any button accidentally.

This drives me crazy because I don't know how to get back to "normal" selection.

When I restart Maya everything works fine again, but after a while this happens again.

Hi @mp-3d and welcome to the community!

That menu appears when you press the W key and left click at the same time.

Can you check to make sure that isn't happening when the menu appears?

If it's happening on its own, your hotkeys might have been messed up which you can reset by deleting your settings/preferences.

thank you very much for your reply!!

I've tried it (W+Mouse Click), and it opens this menu. The problem is that sometimes it does that on its own when I just left click (without W). So maybe the hotkeys are messed up as you said. Is there a chance that I mess up the hot keys by myself with a shortcut I accidentally use during my work.

If it happens again, I will try to reset my hotkeys as you said.

But for now that helps me, thanks!

Hi @mp-3d

I doubt you changed the hotkeys settings as you have to navigate to that menu manually to do it.

That said, if you're working quickly its possibly you may have been misclicking or clicking so quickly that Maya was still reading your W key has pressed down hence why the menu appeared.
