both screens go black after tumbling around scene maya 2016

Dear amazing autodesk community.

I am using maya 2016 on a pc. When I open maya everything is fine for about 5 seconds and then the monitors go black. I know it is some issue to do with the graphics card. I think. Though updating the driver for the card does not work. In fact, I have had to revert to older drivers for my graphics card as a work around to this problem before. 980 ti Asus strix.

The weirdest thing is this problem will happen out of nowhere. I open maya and work for a day. I render something overnight. I come back the next morning and close maya and restart the computer. I open maya and it crashes the monitors. I have tried putting the gpu into different slots in the motherboard.

Hi @Anonymous have you tried running other programs/games? I've had an issue like this as well with my personal machine but its rarely Maya itself that causes the issue. I'd look into your graphics card some more as well as other parts of your machine like your motherboard and power supply. You may also want to just clean your machine out with compressed air especially if there's been dust build up on your fans, card etc to make sure the card isnt overheating. Let me know if any of these fixes work and I'll look into more potential fixes as well.
