Blendshape target: edit does not save sculpted work

Hey!
I'm making some blendhsapes, I sculpt as usual with the edit mode ON, but when I turn OFF the edit mode on the shape editor, the sculpt is not saved.
Also, when I try to use the slider it immediately bounces back to the original shape of the mesh, not saving the sculpting.
Here is what I did:
1. Select geometry
2. In shape editor, add target as tangent space
3. Sculpt with EDIT on
4. Turn off EDIT (here's when it bounces back to the original shape)
Below a demo of my workflow and how it doesn't seem to work (I've done this for other blendshapes in the same character, I don't know why it stopped working). Any help is appreciated!
