Announcing Community Insights

 

Hi Autodesk Community,

 

Here in Autodesk, we value our community members' opinions. You’re already sharing such critical insights back to us on what’s working and what could be improved. We’re working on new quick and easy ways for you to share your voice with us on what we’re doing or planning to do through a new initiative which we’re calling Community Insights.

 

Beginning soon, you’ll start to see occasional popup questions from us. The first few questions will help us learn a little about the industry you’re in so that we can direct the most meaningful questions to you. They should never take more than a few moments of your time, and you can always dismiss them.

 

The answers you provide help us evolve our products and services, but beyond that, will help us work together with you to help shape the Design and Make industries of the future by ensuring we understand what's important and beneficial for you. In short, participating in Community Insights will give you a direct voice to help shape the future of Autodesk. It's a simple yet powerful way for you to have a say in our shared future.

Hi @amanda.k , 

 

That's great to hear, as it looks like the idea forums have been overlooked for quite a long time now.

 

Just out of curiosity: does that include changes to the way issues are being reported to you? Right now the only way is either through the Product Feedback form (which is very poor and doesn't even allow file uploading) or posting on the forums here, but the latter may slip through the cracks and go unnoticed. The Product Feedback form, on the other end, doesn't give access to anything reported to keep track of progress, or to have a deeper discussion with the devs on the issue.

Evolution is better when done upon solid ground. There are some age old bugs that needs fixing to make the software feel more useful, polished and serious.

 

Basics like Maya taking forever to start from SSD with heavy plugins disabled.
The UV toolkit randomly detaches from UV editor.. The convoluted way of choosing UDIM/Tile in Align And Snap (UV Toolkit)..

Maya is a tool used by professionals.. right? remember that.

Introducing promising tools then releasing learning material years later (Bifrost)... The current Bifrost Bootcamp should've been made in 2018. Do you people even plan stuff?

 

Good for nothing "History" in modeling. When user disables it the stupid tools doesn't give paddy controls (that thing which appears when one press 'T' after applying a modeling operation)


Obnoxious Xgen.. Blessing when it works but keeps artist on the edge rest of the time. Inability to simply create XGen archive objects using common formats.. Even when I follow the correct method it either doesn't work or the 'real' way is unintuitive.

 

Don't get me started with Node Editor, HyperShade, HyperGraph, LookDevX and other "specialized" node graphs if I missed any.

 

It's not a rant just stating the obvious holes encountered after years of usage of your "Industry Standard" Maya.
