Alembic cache animation not updating during playback

Hi everyone,

I've had a strange issue with some of my scenes.

I have various rigs of animals and birds, after they are animated I export them as ABC to a new scene to light and add Xgen fur.

One of the rigs is the fox for example. Animation elements (eyes, teeth and etc) play fine, but the body does not update. So for some strange reason I have to press 1/3 and then the body updates, with it the Xgen as well.

I thought the issue was Redshift renderer, enabling motion blur. After I turned it off the batch render seemed to work. Then I restarted the scene and now it's not working again.

I've had similar issues with other rigs.

Any ideas?

2018.2

Dual GTX 1080

64 Ram

Windows 10

One thing I just found out, after playing with it all day.

For the scene where I have Xgen, after I reduced the Xgen hair primitives in view to 0.5%, that seemed to do the trick! (For now at least, I'm afraid to restart the scene)

But I still have a scene where is no Xgen and it happens too. Although batch rendering it work, just not updating in view.

Maybe something with memory management and alembic cache?

Hi!

1. Try Legacy Viewport.

2. Try setting Evaluation Mode to "DG" instead of "Parallel".

Changing the evaluation mode seemed to work!

Why is this happening by the way?

Hi!

"Parallel" does not work correct with all features and attributes, what should be considered as a bug.

I recommend to use "DG" as default and only switch to "Parallel" if you need (and gain) enhanced performance in Viewport for animation tasks.
