2024 so disappointing

can't speak for everyone but 2024 is probably the most unstable release of maya ive ever seen,

svg file i disable it from both check boxes, will load up next reboot,

doing booleans crashes,

changing rederer view crashes,

lots more of problems

maya 2023 was prone to crashes, why can't you just stick with one version of maya and work on that, why release an unstable version year after year

i went back to maya 2020 used it for over and 1hr hasnt crashed

I fear you're not alone.   I just started playing with it and got two issues on actions that should be VERY basic:

1.  I tried to change the camera tumble style...Maya just dumped
2. in a bran new scene I created a plane, applied a bend deformer to it, and it did not bend.  looked in the deformer sets window and it was connected.

This is basic stuff.  I hope this was just a RUSHED release and didn't get enough bug fixes, and not foreshadowing that Autodesk has made a pile of crap that will never work right.  I am getting PTSD flashbacks to Maya 3.5. the first release of Maya on the Mac.  THAT was BAD!  I heard that they took the money that Apple gave them to port Maya and Autodesk outsourced the job.  I wonder if any stories like this will come out about Maya 2024.

I'm still wondering why I can only even open the software and it crashes instantly when I open a new scene!

I checked the error log and it seems to be saying there is something wrong with my mayaUSD？

A CER report if possible would have a stack trace that could help to know where the crash is originating from

The hot fix worked for me!  Mine was crashing during startup, when initializing USD.  At least I can start maya 2024 now.  Thanks!

Ugh, don't even get me started on Maya 2024! This software is supposed to be the industry standard for 3D animation, but it's so unstable it's ridiculous. Every time I try to open a file, it takes forever and sometimes just crashes without warning. And don't even get me started on the random freezes and lag spikes that seem to happen for no reason.

It's like every time I try to do anything in Maya 2024, I'm rolling the dice on whether or not the software is going to cooperate. And forget about trying to work on a complex scene with lots of geometry and textures - that's just asking for trouble. Even with a powerful computer, Maya 2024 can't seem to handle the load.

And don't even get me started on the bugs! Sometimes I'll be working on a scene and all of a sudden things just stop working - tools won't activate, objects disappear, you name it. And half the time, restarting the software doesn't even fix the problem.

It's frustrating, to say the least. I mean, I get that software is never going to be perfect, but when you're paying top dollar for a professional tool like Maya 2024, you expect it to at least be stable and reliable. Instead, it feels like I'm beta-testing an early release. Come on Autodesk, get your act together!

That doesnt sound like a 2024 issue. More like a corrupted install or you try to open old files with corrupted stuff in it. For us here 2024 is more stable than 2023.  

Please provide more info how its crashing. And how to reproduce the issue.

who is exactly us? 2 of your friends? 5 people who you know?
so basically its his fault because he has a corrupt install, couldnt be maya, heck everyone who has a problem you need a fresh install of your os and the proper hardware drivers, and if it still crashes it can't be maya,
this doesnt sound like a maya 2024 issue? its been an issue ever since autodesk bought maya from alias, and ruined it,

you have to constantly delete history in maya or it will crash
maya has trouble with complex calculations it will crash

Maya 2024 crashes definetly more than 2023, for no reproducable reasons, like random ... I mean yes I can install all drivers, all os ... but no I won't do that, I don't have time for that. I can not be alone with these issues ... I can not imagine that at all.

You are not alone. I've re-installed 2024 multiple times and it keeps just randomly dumping out with out anywarning. Just moving a vert or rotating the camera or more often not doing ANYTHING and maya just vanishes without a trace.

i realize that a lot of work goes into maya and the developers are always excited to share what they've worked so hard on, but for some reason new versions of maya dont work well on my macos monterey, 2019 macbook pro i9 16inch 32gb ram 8gb amd radeon pro 5500m

complex scenes crash

viewports with image planes always distorted when i load scene, have to fix them

svgfile plugin cant be disabled

extruding creates multiple faces on top of each other, i have to delete 5 times on a face to get back to just 1 face,

hs is a hit or miss depending on what materials i use,

i just dont have any of these issues with maya 2020.3

I'm also getting a lot of crashes, Maya locking up and just disappearing with no logs, I haven't updated my NVidia drivers in a long time so I'm trying that now and recommend everyone doing the same, old drivers are a big issue with all versions of Maya.  I'll see if that helps. I also haven't been having these issues in 2023.3 feels like it's the viewport here, so could be drivers. Lets see.

I will share the solution someone suggested to me on this Autodesk community forum a while back when I complained about the same stability and performance issues and my disappointment towards Maya 2024.

- Download Maya 2020 because it is more stable. 🙄

After upgrading nvidia drivers and cleaning the scene, which is about 5-mill tris with different simple objects, it's still crashing badly.  No CER or crash logs. Happens while selecting objects or duplicating; mostly, I'm just duplicating simple objects around or selecting them or moving verts when it goes.   

I've removed the viewport lighting and the image planes, also the textures.  The scene is still crashing and lasts about 10 mins before locking up.  

I'll try wiping the prefs and 2023.3 next, I haven't been having any issues with 2023 but I will try on this particular scene. 

I can also send the scene privately as well. Let me know.

Have you tried using the certified drivers for Maya 2024? (instead of the latest)

Also, Maya 2024.1 was just released so you could also try that to see if the crashes are still happening.

I've asked someone from QA to reach out and get your scene so we can investigate this internally.
