2017 Maya student version not saving?

We have an educational license and are running Maya 2017, but since we installed it it has not saved any files? I've tried to figure out what's going on but I'm having trouble... this version is also on my son's computer and I'm not a PC person - so... help appreciated. When he tries to save his project we get an error message.

Hi!

You maybe don't have permission to save inside the Install Folder (and you should not do that).

Create a Project Folder at your user directory and save there.

Please read the Maya Online Help / Documentation for more details.

If this doesn't help you try a reset of your preferences.
Rename the folder prefs in folder 2018 to something like prefs_backup, or to reset everything, the folder 2018 to 2018_backup. Maya creates new folders. Detailed at:

hi;

my suggest is that to do these:

go to fill >> project window >>in opened window "Current project" (hit on "new" and write new name) >> Location ( address to everywhere you want else what is it now)

then hit Accept ( in bellow)

again go to fill >> Set Project >> (find the folder you created it at top) just select it >> hit the "Set" bottom.

Now you can save your scene and address it to file which you created and go in and save your scene in scene folder.

you can add your other texture and stuff there (upon the folder arrangement).

Hi @Anonymous

@Anonymous has the right idea.

Also, from your screenshot it looks like what should be your Documents folder is named simply D:/. Which is normally a hard drive however it shows the icon of a documents folder so you may want to check there.
