Error : Selected object cannot own a field/emitter/collision.

Hello, people,
I have been trying all day long to solve this issue but I can't find the solution anywhere on the internet.

I even tried to uninstall and reinstall Maya.

So I'm asking here as a last resort.
Whenever I try (even in a brand new scene) to emit particles from an object within a 3D fluid container, I get this line of error which I had never had before:

"// Warning: line 0: fluid1  Selected object cannot own a field/emitter/collision. Object must be a surface, mesh, or (for fields or emitters) particle object."
Has anyone esle ever encountered this issue before ? Maybe this is a silly setting option that I missed or changed ?

Thanks in advance.

Is that a poly sphere object? Have you tried different objects? Go into the object box for Emit from Object and go to the Edit menu in there and reset the settings, just in case, to go back to defaults. Also, quit Maya, delete your preferences folder (or rename it as I do) and then restart Maya and try that again. I can't seem to replicate this error on my end. I assume you're using Fluid > Add/Edit Contents > Emit from Object with both the object and the fluid container selected? Or are you actually trying to emit particles as opposed to fluids?

Ok, I actually did replicate it, and it seems you are using nParticles > Create from Object. And since you have selected the sphere first and the fluid container second, Maya thinks you want to emit nParticles from the fluid container, and not the sphere. If you ONLY select the sphere, then you're fine and you can emit particles from it, though I don't think that's what you're after, right? You want to emit something from the sphere to affect the 3d fluid container, right? In which case you want to use Fluids > Add/Edit Contents > Emit from Object, as my previous post mentioned. Is that it?

Hello, thanks for digging in.
I tried going through Fluids instead of nParticles and it seems to work; which is surprising because I'm pretty sure I went through nParticles one week ago when I first created my simulation, following a tutorial.
Thanks a lot.

Great, yeah that happens all the time. I'm glad it's working. Mark that post as the solution, if you don't mind, and best of luck with your project!
