un-instance xgen archive instances or convert to polygon

Hi all,
I am making a bird with feathers using xgen's archive instance option.

Now I followed a previous thread and exported the description as a MEL.

Now when I import the MEL, it is a group of instanced feathers. I am unable to group them or export the whole thing as an obj. It just gets maya stuck !

I want to manually edit the feathers..so I have to get the feathers to be un-instanced (make unique).

Do you have a solution to uninstance xgen archive instances?

Already tried : Modify convert instance to object - this one deleted all feathers except one!

Export alembic - gives double surfaced /nonmanifold geometry and messed up UVs

Export other geo cache - maya stuck !

Export obj - maya stuck !

Combine all feathers - maya stuck !

Hi!

"Modify convert instance to object - this one deleted all feathers except one!"

You need to select all individual instance transforms (white + green selection shown).

OBJ export works here but may need some time (several minutes or even an hour) dependent on polycount, which is usual very high for a lot of instances.

Thanks. But I did try both.

Just one feather was given as the result in any if those convert to object option.

And converting to obj was taking more than 4 hours or Maya got stuck, so I had to kill.

I am still looking for a solution 😞

Hi!

Please upload a scene-file (maybe with just 5 instances).

Also please post a screenshot of your selection (Oultiner + Viewport) before using "Instance to Object".
