I create curves and assign a hair system - I do everything fine - hair looks fine - but when I play back the hair vanishes and only the curves are there ? The curves act as the hair should but the hair itself goes missing - why - frame 1 is fine but the rest the hair disappears- please help

Hi @Anonymous

Thanks for posting! Can you tell me a bit more about your setup?

  1. What version of Maya are you working with?
  2. What is your Graphics Card?
  3. What Operating System are you working on?
  4. Have you tried resetting your preferences?

Lastly, are you able to share your scene file here? I'd be happy to take a look at it and see what's going on!

Thanks again for being a part of our community! I look forward to your reply!

I have noticed that if i turn off the Nucleus the issues is gone and the hair shows up.

But don't i need the nucleus on?

Hi it happens with every scene i create, so its not the specific scene.

Maya 2016 student

Yoshmite on Mac

Not sure on Graphic card - but it's good enough, cause i saw it work before.

reset prefs, and no use.

-----------------------

Now i have some what solved it. after basically clicking every button, i found that when in the hair system shape1, i turned of the Nucleus, the hair stayed for the play back. and worked fine? but WHY

do i not need the Nucleus?

Hi @Anonymous

Have you tried changing Viewports to legacy to see if the hair still shows?

Also, are you animating the hair or does it now show even if you assign it to a basic cube and hit play?

Some things to try.

  • turn off collide
    • For the hairSystem
    • Or nRigid mesh close to the cv[0]
  • set hairsystem bend solver to "simple"
    • Save and reopen scene. (changing bend model requires a scene reopen)
