hello everyone i have problem doing paint weight . it show warning "specified weight could not be set due to locked influences" .. any idea how to "Unlock" this  ? .

i read other forum about this issue .. he said : "in the paint skin weights dialog box, move down the list and see what bones/influences have (hold) written right next to them. Select the joint in the list and click "Toggle Hold Weights On Selected".

what does he means ? i cant find how to do this in my paint skin weight dialog box

Select the skinned mesh and go to paint weight tool and you can see the influences in the "paint skin weight tool" window.

Find the joint which is locked . It will show a yellow locked icon on the left, here its all unlocked and grey. Left click on it to make it unlocked.

Hi!

Try a reset of your preferences.
Rename the folder prefs in folder 2017 to something like prefs_backup, or to reset everything, the folder 2017 to 2017_backup (or even the maya folder to maya_backup). Maya creates new folders (don't copy preferences from previous Maya versions). Detailed at:

Hi!

Please provide an example scene with a simple rig that does not work for you.

Hi!

For future reference, this problem can be fixed via skin > edit influences > set max influences and then increasing the number.

Essentially, every vert can only be influenced by a set number of joints. The default is 4 or 5, but for really smooth deformations this might not be enough.

I figured it out. Try to change attribute "Max Influences" to 2 or more in skinCluster node.
