Error: Geometry is not in a skinCluster

Hello!

I’m new in rigging and skinning and that is just my first attempt to create a rig, so… I’ve got that error while trying to mirror weight I have painted for one side. Selected the mesh, applied mirror skin and got
“ Error: file: E:/ProgramFiles/Maya/Maya2022/scripts/others/doMirrorSkinWeightsArgList.mel line 84: Geometry is not in a skinCluster. “

Before doing rig, I have checked the model for symmetry and cleaned it (remove construction history, un-used nodes etc.), using Advanced Skeleton

Can’t to find any decision.. Anyone have some ideas what it can be?

Hi!

This Error normally shows up when you try to mirror skinweights on an unbound mesh.

Does your mesh follow the joints when you move them?

Are you sure that you have selected the Mesh direclty and not the Group above it?

Also sometimes rigs have more than one geometric part, for example separate eyes or eyelashes, could it be that you have one of those meshes not skinned yet but have it accidentally selected when trying to mirror skin weights?

Before mirroring skin weights, make sure you select your skinned mesh, and ONLY your skinned mesh.

I hope this helps!

Thank! I haven't skinned eyes yet, that are separated. Think it can be the
reason! Will continue that way.
Thank you!

can you explain what you mean by "all my characters meshes are different" ?

Do you maybe have some screenshots?

Ok, for that to work both of your legs (the actual meshes not the group above them) need to be selected when you mirror the weights over. And both of your legs need to have a skincluster attached, then this should not be a problem. The settings depend on your naming conventions and positional precision.

Well, the skincluster is the deformer tha gets created when you skin your mesh. Since you said that both legs are skinned, the should have skinclusters.

If you still have this error, it would probably be easiest if you attach your file so I can directly look at it and tell you how to fix it.
