Axis orientation not moving

Hi,

I've been off the rigging game for some time but work came up and had to go on and refresh myself with rigging again. So i am trying to change the axis orientation on a angled object but when editing the pivot either through the edit pivot box or "d+v" keys the pivot does not change or move with the rotate tool. When trying to tweek the orientation on the transform attributes tab, the rotate axis does not move as well but instead rotates the object when adjusting the numbers on the axis boxes. I had created groups to change orientation but to no success. I am trying to keep my translates and rotates zero'd out to be able to add a control to said object.

Hey @Anonymous

Not 100% sure if you have any joints or if its just the object and controller you're working with. Usually when you want to change the axis of the joint itself what we do is change its LRA (Local Rotation Axis), not sure if that might ring a bell. The other thing for example is if you make a basic nurbs circle, add a group right above it. Now rotate that group node and do not freeze transforms on it, select your controller and it should all be zeroed out, but have the rotation axis you are looking for! (:

Well this is just the object itself no joints and such, I had done simple parenting through other objects to get the correct axis orientation but resets to the standard position when freezed. I want to keep the custom axis orientation while having it’s transforms 0.

Hey @Anonymous

Well what you can do is select that object, now group it...  on that group node, rotate it however you want to match the exact angle you're looking for. If you now select the object you will see its all zeroed out! Only thing is to make sure the object and group node have the same pivot to rotate from and you're good to go! (:

Well that’s the thing I would do that but when removed from the group all the transforms are not zero’d out. Then freezing resets it’s axis  orientation.

Hello @Anonymous

Oh no! Don't remove it from the group, it needs to remain underneath that group node in the hierarchy for it work! It shouldn't give too much issues honestly having a group node since its not visible in the viewport.
