Searching the Online API help without having to remember the URL to it...

I just set up a search engine in Google Chrome 57.0.2987.133 and thought it was worth sharing the steps:

  1. Right-click the address bar and select "Edit search engines".
  2. Scroll to the very bottom of the list until you see this:2017-04-06 17_10_58-Settings - Search engines.png
  3. Add a friendly name - I chose Autodesk Inventor API Search, and a shortcut (This has to be unique!) I used "AIV", and then the crucial bit: http://help.autodesk.com/view/INVNTOR/2018/ENU/?query=%s&cg=Developer%27s%20Documentation

Once this is done, you can search the Autodesk Inventor API without needing a shortcut to the API help documentation like so:

Thanks, that's realy useful. Especialy with the "Developer's Documentation" already checked.

I've started using "i" as prefixes for Inventor related stuff (iApp for Inventor Application etc.) so "iAPI" was a clear choice.

Consider using "Accept as Solution" / "Kudos" if you find this helpful.

It's a simple update but if you want to keep using the search function with the latest API documentation you just need to change the search string to this:

http://help.autodesk.com/view/INVNTOR/2019/ENU/?query=%s&cg=Developer%27s%20Documentation

the only difference being that it points to 2019 instead of 2018.

My guess is that at some stage Autodesk will do away with a yearly version number and it'll just be "Inventor Professional" like they have "Fusion 360"

Inventor 360 perhaps? 😉

It shows how long I have been away from here, but here we find ourselves in 2021 and the following works (in both Chrome & Edge 😮 ) :
