At my company, we create a lot of duct banks that are MTO. We are looking to reduce the time it takes to model them.
Currently, we have a multibody master file that holds a form to enter the specifics needed to create the plate as well as a few other things that change shape and size depending on the length and width of the plate. It works great except that every time you run the generator, you get unique part numbers. We would like to avoid having several part numbers for identical products. Is there a way for Inventor/Vault to search vault for a plate that matches the specifications entered into the form and place it into the assembly or, if nothing exists, create a new plate?
My CAD lead thniks the answer lies with iParts. While I believe using iParts and iAssemblies can get us a list of known parts that would help avoid duplicate parts, I don't know of a way to avoid having the process of looking through the 100's of options a reasonably fast one.
It sounds like a lot to ask of Inventor but, I thought if anyone has ran into this sort of thing, it's the good folks in the AutoDesk Inventor community.
