Weld Feature Names

I'm starting to work with weld features in assemblies.  I've found several pain points with the process and I am trying automate my way around them.

Our weldments range from 1 lb to 80,000 lbs so workflows that are simple for one or two weld features can be painful when applied to 100s of features.

I've started to tie the weld feature name, MBD name and the weld tail text together.  It helps me keep orginizaed as the model and 2d documentation evolve over the useful life of the product.

Has anybody tried to automate keeping the 3 text fields in sync?

Hi @swalton . Unfortunately, we cannot access Welding Symbol via API. You can get information about Welding Symbol properties via CosmeticWeld.WeldInfo method. Please note that its property is ReadOnly.
More details about this issue were described in this topic - link.

Andrii,

Thanks for the info.  There seem to be several limitations with Inventor's 3d weld process.

Any chance of using the API to apply weld caterpillars in the drawing environment?  My hope was to use the edges identified by the 3d cosmetic weld bead and some sort of visibility filter per drawing view....

Or a way to move a weld symbol from one drawing view to another?

How about a way to change the attachment point for an annotation that only lets the user select valid edges used in the parent bead feature...

A way to tie bead feature visibility to Design View reps, not Model States?

I'm beginning to think that the modeling and drafting labor of the weldment environment may not help my company much.
