Trouble with Frame assembly

I'm very new and rather raw with ilogic and rules and would appreciate a little help.

I'm trying to create a bit of an automated system. We design industrial kitchens, part of this is standard tables/benches. I'm trying to have a scenario where we have a template as such, which is an assembly of the parts, a top, a shelf and a leg set (framework) which in turn has a set of drawings, a GA, , a approval drawing, a frame drawing  with cutting list and sheet metal parts drawings of which also creates the developed part for exporting to a CNC. As part of this process I copy the master using Design Assistant, creating a copy, copying it to a directory relevant to the specific contract and renaming the files with the contract number proceeding the file name. When it's opened it pops up a form to ask the bench's length, width, height and shelf height.

Part of the problem originally was doing this the link to the sub files obviously broke as the files where renamed. Thanks to very helpful people on here that was pretty much cured with the tip of renaming the parts in the tree. Works a treat for the 'parts' but because the legs are a frame gen set up, it's a sub assembly, to mod the legs the sketch 'part' for that needs updating, which is where it all falls apart as you can't rename parts of a sub assembly in the tree. So everything except the frame updates beautifully.

Oh, better add, we don't use vault yet (in case some suggests anything which relates to it).

Anyone know a way around it?

Thanks in advance.

Hello Dave,

Do you want to copy (rename) whole of the assembly including Frame Generator Parts?

My tool Refactoring Tool may help you.

This tool copy / rename Inventor documents like Design Assistant. One of differences from Design Assistant is this tool can handle sub directories containing the documents of Design Accelerator.

I hope my tool helping to resolve your issue.

Thanks for that, I'll give it a go.

The problem isn't renaming files themselves, the problem is within iLogic rules it needs either the file name or the instance name in the tree and it'll link back via the tree to the part, which is great for parts or the top level of sub assemblies but you can't rename the instance names within sub assemblies, which is where I have my dilema.

Hi Dave,

Do you use Design Assistant from iLogic? If so, I didn't understand your problem.
