Inventor Professional 2016 Material Library and Appearance Library

I have created materials with their own images (.jpg) that i have loaded into inventor for each specific material through the materials library and now everytime i set the material from the pull down list in my newly created .ipt the file uptains a link to the .jpg image of that material in a 3rd party drop down. Earlier verisions of Inventor this never happened.  It also gets linked to the image file when you use the "Adjust " command.

Can anyone help me with these questions:

1. Has anyone else experienced this? And why is this happening?

2. When i choose the visual style of realistic i am able to see my texture of my material i created. But when i switch to shaded with edges the material becomes a solid color why is this?

3. Is their a way to quickly remove the links from every part in an assembly without having to open / go into edit , Tools > Options Panel > Links and then break each single link?

4. I dont want these to show up because when i use the copy design feature inside vault professional 2016 it brings all the image files that are linked to each part in as well and its time consuming to unselect each image file.

4. Image below shows the 3rd party links on the files i have checked out "LW-MET-0005-OPP.IPT and the main assembly 71499.iam i removed multiple links to .jgp files.

* please let me know if you have any suggestions or if you would like to me provide you with any additional information.

Try this

Home->Projects-> Workgoup Search Paths  and add path where you have textures JPG

This is a Vault Project file. If i modify the Workgroup search paths then my Vault Project file becomes a single user project file.

@harris,

This is not a behavior that I recall seeing.

The way that I handle images and vault is that I add the image to vault where I want it.

I will then get it out of Vault and then attach it to the material in question.

This way when you check the files in the images are there and where you are waning them to be.

Does this answer your question?

If so, please mark it as a solution for other to find.

Thank you.

Yes that makes sense. Just wondering if there is a way to not show them in my browser one reason is because when i perform the GET command in Vault they show up in my GET dialog box. When i perform a Copy Design in Vault they come along with that assembly / part and i prefer them not to, because i dont want my engineers accidentally making duplicate images inside the vault. Is there a way to hide these linked images?

@harris,

There is now way that I can think of while maintaining the link.

If you break the link, the file is inserted and will not update when source changes.

This is still an issue where I work.  The problem here is that we have a network drive where all materials are saved along with images.  Project file maps to these locations, but Vault doesn't like the network drive for this.  The only fix I have seen so far is to open the offending part, select TOOLS>LINKS, there you will see the image file causing you the grief, you can break the link here.  Autodesk: how do we customize material images on a multi-user environment where materials and images are stored on a network drive using a Vault project file?  I have seen one option: store all materials/appearances (basically the design data folder) on Vault.  Folks will have to manually download the latest changes, but no offending links....  Thoughts on this Autodesk?
