External Rule Directory - Browse for Folder won't show network location

Inventor Pro 2015>Tools>Options>iLogic Configuration>External Rule Directories>Add a Directory to the list>Browse for Folder

Unfortunatetly, I can't manually enter a location for adding an external rule directory.  I have to browse for it.  This presents a problem for a network location that doesn't display in the network list.  Our networks team informed me that the "Browse for Folder" is old technology and that newer servers won't show in that list.

Any easy work around solution would be to map the network location.  However, this presents problems when a user tries to work remotely over VPN.  In this case, when a user starts their computer, the network location isn't immediately mapped.  Until they log into VPN, the mapped network connection is lost.  Even if this connection gets reestablished with VPN, it seems Inventor still thinks the map is broken.  Even after verifying the map is good (first) and then opening Inventor for the first time since the machine has been turned on.

We use this network location as a central spot for the iLogic that is executed in our templates.  It's critical to our workflow.  Sure, we can have users copy the iLogic to a local drive, but then updates to code becomes much more difficult to manage.  We can also store it in cloud storage such as dropbox or onedrive, but this also is a bandaid fix.

Do you know if there is a file I can have users manually edit in which this location can be manually entered so they don't have to map a network drive?

Example:  \\VaultServer\Inventor Standards\Automation\  where \\VaultServer\ doesn't show in the network list of the "Browse for Folder" window.

Hi, Unfortunately I could not find a quick solution, but at the following link there is a suggestion from our expert elite that could be helpful in this situation: http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/inventor-customization/ilogic-configuration-where-stored/m-p/3897340#M... Consider that the file user.config is located here: C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Autodesk,_Inc\DefaultDomain_Path_dyn3yltervsx4dgsvto5pwd10whykmwn\Autodesk®_Inventor®_2015

Thanks

Thanks Sergio!  Your message was exactly what I was looking for.

Here are the steps I took:

1. Made sure Inventor was closed.

2. Ran a search for user.config in Windows Explorer.

3. Found the folder related to Autodesk.

4. Copied user.config and renamed it to user.config.backup.

5. Opened user.config in Notepad.

6. Replaced all mapped folders with the direct path.

7. Saved the file and restarted Inventor.

All is good now!

Now to get the rest of my team to do the same thing.  I wish there was a better way.  I guess there is always the wish list.  Even though there are more important things for Autodesk to address, this seems like a pretty easy one to fix.  The Browse for Folder is a Windows component that could use an update...but allowing the user to manually enter the path in the iLogic Configuration window would button things up nicely.
