Creating a custom Content Center Family using vendor supplied step files.

Hello,

I am working on adding components that we buy from various vendor pretty regularly so that we don't have to either model it ourselves every time or go to their website and download the step files. I have started with the items we use the most and are the easiest to create by using a table of dimensions of the available parts. I would then create an iPart and populate it with the appropriate description and part number for each, then publish it to the content center. However i have gotten to the point where the components are more and more complex. For example the Crosby G-2130 Bolt Type Shackles, I could create an iPart with the vendor supplied information however it would probably take me a little while to do. So what i would like to know is if there is a way to create a family in Content Center that for each "Size" shackle it would reference a different step file that i downloaded from Crosby's website. I could publish each size individually however that would make our content center extremely cluttered and not very user friendly.

Thank you

Michael

@Michael_Littleton,

custom Inventor files can be added to content center. For more details on adding component to a family of content center, go through below youtube video link.

Unfortunately, Non inventor files are not allowed to create family in content center. Please post this wish list at idea station using below link.

I know this doesn't directly answer your question but please find attached G2130 shackle ipart that you can publish to your content centre. I found that the step files that you can download from the Crosby website were not that good anyway (they just sliced bits off to create the correct outside dimensions). These are all accurate to the dimensions in the catalogue except for the bow cross section. The actual shackles vary in cross section shape along their length whereas I have used a simple circle sweep. Anyway hope this is of some use. File is a 2015 version.
