change shapes in content center from equal to unequal with out loosing constrain

I do allot of structual assemblies and started with a common L 2 x 2 x 3/16  and used the same part saved as, all way to a 6 x 6 do when I need to change the size we can just do a shape change without loosing constraints from location and holes. 

Now when I need to change out to a like l 3 x 2 x 3 /16 I need to go and start all over.

Is there a way to save the equal shape as a unequal and change the part number so the bill of material also changes I can set up a custom project or a shape list so I can do my custom shapes

Than you need to create one and the same CC Family.

I have attached a common L 2 x 2 can you turn it in to a 3 x 2 ? But I will need to have the part number change to a 3 x 2 also so when I need to change the length the BOM will change to a example   ANSI 3 X 2 X 3/16  137''

I was able to create a custom family library in the content center   the unequal worked best both ways because it had the option to fill in the WIDTH  on the angle shape   it works to use in a assemble that has unequal shapes back and forth  

My problem is now all my assembles are made in a equal shape and since the equal  does not have the WIDTH OPTION TO CHANGE I AM STUCK AGAIN.

You need to modify the equal shape in the CC.

But please be careful.

I am setting up the column as the unequal shape is and then I hope to change the letters in the drawing will let you know if I can get it done. I am slowly digging into it

I ran into another road block when I change the shape is does not recognize the file I set up so the geometry is lost  i would like to unlock the one ANSI I was using to make it work properly. can you help me on this step to resolve it

Hi,

if you want to modify standard family (ANSI L in you case) you need to modify your project, add a custom read/write library (My Library predefined) and then in Content Center Editor copy family to read/write library. 

Being able to define length during placement, length must be CUSTOM COLUMN.

In this case Change Size command on your profile does not loose holes

This will not work in his case.

Than he needs to replace all "Common CC" files in the historical assembly files.

And than he is loosing all ref's i.e. constraints and modifications to the CC part files.

One way or another I would like to get the issue fixed one of two way 

the ANSI equal angle is the only one I used to make 100s of assemble drwaings

If I create a cc custom library of the file so I can change measurements, the issue I had was if I added a column for the width and changed the number to reflect the unequal shape It will not let me change the Measurement from a G_H to a G_W on one side. 

If I need to change shape and lengths in the assemble drawing I would open the shape to change it but it would not be the custom built one because the custom one was built after I made the assemble.

If we could unlock the ANSI equal file that is the one I used it would make it simple

Ok I found out a way to modify the ANSI angle columns that Autodesk told me is locked for a good reason I added a column to add in the width G_W 

but I am missing a point where to activate it can you help I checked the properties in the unequal shape to name it correctly but it does not let me change it in the drawings

I resolved my issue I just wish I would have researched it a long time ago if you start with a unequal shape you can do what you want, because the width can be entered as the height if you want to go to a equal shape  you can go in and modify the shape and thickness. but if you start with a equal they got the system locked up so you can't add the width in the parameters.
