On our drawings, we always have a revision table and Rev. A is always "release for production". I put a rev table with rev A on my drawing template but the date stays the same as the date when I first added it to the template. How can I make the date reflect the date the drawing was created rather than the date the template was modified?

Hi,

at leaset, I believe you could use the object RevisionTable to access its cell and modify the date.

This is an odd answer? Of course it can be manually updated but surely autodesk is able to get this pulling the date of creation through? It inserts the user name automatically. This has been a pain for years and should be setup without the need for iLogic or other work arounds.

You have a custom need and one that is uncommon. Creation date on REV A, but Revision date on REV B and future revisions. The DATE property in the Revision Table is designed to enter the current date when you are making a revision. You certainly could change this property to CREATION DATE, but then all future revisions will infact show when the file was created as well.

It's easy to pull creation date automaticly, but the problem is that nobody wants that - it would be the same date for all revisions by default. Even if it were to adjust for creation on A and then revision on B it would still be a very uncommon workflow.

No disrespect but wrong on both counts. Uncommon? This is an issue every time a new idw is created. Yes it is more important that the revision date is added automatically but if the creation date was captured creation there would be no need to edit the revision table for first issue. All the other data can be added by default. Surely Autodesk has it in them to effect this - creation date on creation then current date at revisions - and everybody wants that!!

None taken, however most standards state 'The term revision refers to any change after that drawing has been released for use.' So release itself is a 'No Rev'. I've consulted with a 100 or so top manufacturing companies - some of which have been in business 150+ years - and they all release with no revision.

Hi Jonathan. Not sure what you mean by "release with no revision"? I might have wrong end of the stick here but in my experience the first release for manufacture is Rev A. Either way we are debating the intricacies whereas I'm just refering to daily use - at the coal face, so to speak. And I'm frequently getting it in the ear from our team of engineers that it's a wind up to have to edit the rev table for new drawing just to set the date for creation. It's the computer users pet hate - more clicks! We have folk who are great designers but often miss this date change. Busy thinking on a higher plane?

Thanks.
