Probes don't appear and Query Display is bugged

HI,

I am working on a fairly complex assembly, meaning the parts themselves are pretty complex.

I want to do a convergence study but for that i need the probed values of the areas with the highest stress values.

My Problem is, that the probe tool does nothing at all. I click the Probe Button and the cursor changes but then nothing happens. If i click anywhere on the part nothing shows up. i know how the probe is supposed to work but somehow this time it wont work.

might this have to do with the size of the model? It has roughly 2.8 million nodes and 1.6 million elements. or could there be any other explanation. Also my contour plot is in part view.

Thanks in advance,

Best, Alex klein.

Hello @Anonymous,

Could you do me a favor and run the analysis with a much rougher mesh and see if same issue exists? If so, we may then need to grab the model from you for the product team for product improvement.

Regards,

Shigeaki K.

Hello Mr Shigeaki,

I found out, that if i use the section view instead of the part view i was able to place probes.

I then however encountered the issue with the probes not being placed correctly which can be solved by editing the "von Mises" Plot and disabling and then reenabling the display. then the probe was placed correctly.

but sadly i don't really have the time for the rougher mesh today. Maybe i  can do that tomorrow or next week.

Thank you anyway for the quick reply.

Best, Alex

Hi Alex,

Thank you for the update. It sounds like there may be one or two issues involved:

  1. The probe can pick up the result from a hidden part. See "Nastran In-CAD: Results probe showing wrong values (due to hidden parts)"
  2. There are some models where the probe is slow to respond. The suggestions in this article may help: "Nastran In-CAD slow to display probe for results"
  3. The fine mesh may also be having an effect on the speed.

If not provided, indicate the version of Inventor Nastran you are using.
If the issue is related to a model, attach the model! See What files to provide when the model is needed.

Hi John,

Thank you for the reply, i already found the article about the probes showing wrong values due to hidden parts.
That one did help me a lot in fact.

I am now using the XY-Plot for more precise results anyway.

Thanks again for your help.

Best,

Alex

The page https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/inventor-nastran/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticl...

Seems to indicate that this is a known problem/bug.

However, I'm on Nastran 2019 13.2.0.168 (In-CAD 2019.2.0.288); and I can click the Probe button, and it highlights, and yet that's it...there is no lagging, slowing, and no not responding, and certainly no actual Probe tooltip hovering.

I only have 33k elements.  The Probing functionality is intermittent at best.  It appears that closing even just the file and reopening (no need to relaunch Inventor) enables the Probe tool again.
Looks like there's a bunch of discussion in here that I havn't bothered reading:
