Equivalent Plastic Strain (PEEQ)

Hi everyone,

Do you know how to get the result / plot of Equivalent Plastic Strain from the Nonlinears static analysis with plastic behaviour of material? I have done a simulation where the yield strength of material is exceeded and I would like to know PEEQ.

“Equivalent Plastic Strain: Equivalent plastic strain (usually denoted as "ε_eq" or "P_eq") is a concept used to simplify and quantify the plastic deformation that has occurred in a material in a way that considers both the magnitude and the direction of deformation. It is a scalar value and is often used as a measure of how close a material is to failure or rupture. The definition of equivalent plastic strain can vary depending on the specific plasticity model being used, but it is typically derived from the principal plastic strains in a stress or strain space.”

Is possible to get this value from Nastran? Is this the same as von Mises strain?

Hi @d_frankow

Isn't there a choice in the results selection "Strain > Effective Strain - Plastic" or something like that? I'm sure that I have seen it,  but currently do not have a good model to look at.

The von Mises strain would include elastic and plastic. The elastic is usually smaller than plastic, so that might be a close approximation.
