It would be nice to be able to use iproperties to assign drawing layers to parts and assemblies.
I am using Inventor to produce drawings to build outdoor stages. Right now I am working on a very small stage that has 725 instances of only 12 parts. When I create the drawings many of the parts either can obscure other parts or clutter the drawing.
While I can create different views, it’s pretty labor intensive, and if I edit the master assembly, I need to update the views.
If I could, for example, use a layer iproperty to assign the decks to the ‘deck’ layer in my drawing, I could turn the ‘deck’ layer on or off quickly and easily exposing the structure below the decks.
For another example, we also use tents and canopies. These are assembled using color codes aluminum tubes. I could assign Red poles, or any other red color coded components, to the ‘Red’ layer, change the ink color to red, and have a pretty, color coded drawing.
