This is similar to "Find in Browser" that helps finding the sketch. Every sketch has it's own unique plane of construction. Down the browse, we need to create a sketch on a plane that a sketch (or sketches) have been created already. I find it, but better if the "Find Workplane in Browser" is also available as a RMB option
If anyone know how to do this, please respond, or VOTE up if you feel better with this idea.
Have you tried the ’Show Input‘ command in RMB context menu? Please refer to below link, it's a sketch enhancement in Inventor 2016, it's designed to find the reference work plane for selected sketch.
@jingyi.liu, "Show Input" only highlights the plane in the graphics window, not in the Browser Tree... and it doesn't even display the plane's name in the graphics window like it would if you manually selected the plane. So "Show Input" is really quite useless for helping you determine which plane in your browser history a Sketch is tied to.
@RoyWickrama_RWEI, the best way to do that right now is to right-click your Sketch and click "Relationships", and then from within "Parents" you can see the name of the plane used to create your sketch and even click the cursor button to select the plane. Unfortunately, though, it will also list any planes that you PROJECTED into your sketch, and it's impossible to tell just by looking at the list which plane the Sketch was created from and which plane(s) were projected into it.
It would be much better if "Show Input" highlighted the plane not just in the graphics window but also in the Browser. Just like what I've asked for with Constraints here: Make it easier to determine what constraints are constraining. Why these two things only show the references in the graphics window and not in the browser as well is a mystery to me. It would be much more valuable to the user to highlight them in the Browser tree.
Thanks for your explanation, I got your point now. Show Input was based on the request to find sketch reference, I'm sorry you're dissatisfied with this function.
I double checked the Show Input request and current behavior, please refer to below recording. Indeed, Show Input will highlight its reference Work plane both in graphic window and browser. If the sketch was created based on planar face of model, since there is no corresponding plane defined in browser, so only showed in graphic window. Does it make sense?
That's odd... I'm running Inventor 2017.3 Build 233 and when I do Show Input, it only highlights the plane in the graphics window, not in the browser, even if it's an actual plane and not a face.
This idea has been implemented within Autodesk Inventor 2018. The "Show Input" command is available as a right click option on any sketch. In Autodesk Inventor 2018, invoking a "Show Input" will highlight and select the face or plane the sketch was generated upon, allowing additional actions such as toggle visibility or find in browser, access Relationships, etc. Special thanks to everyone who cast a vote for it.
