We went to a Gunslinger event in Novi about 2 weeks ago and asked them specifically about this enhancement because of the many comments of people who need this feature. You could tell it was well known to them that this is needed in Inventor. They just said that they are definitely working on it but I did not really ask for a specific event. I just remember them showing all the changes coming up and each one they showed was a user request from the Idea station. They literally are working constantly on our ideas and they ask us what we think of things they are working on. It is a matter of priority and resources that is why they have the kudos. This idea is needed and it is on the way. Fortunately, they can release these kinds of things in incremental released now instead of waiting for the main releases. I hope they will get this out very soon too. I saw various ideas that were submitted and are coming in some future releases. They are committed to listening to us and meeting our needs. It may not appear that way when we look at a specific feature like this one, but when you see the bigger picture of what they are doing it is really impressive.
@Anonymous thanks for sharing that about the gunslinger. The other way to see how impressive their work is in relation to the ideastation, and how engaged they are with user feedback on new features they are developing is to join the beta. It's truly awesome.
The problem with this idea, it exposes an overall weakness of the assembly environment with respect to features. So it's clearly not an easy thing for them to implement. Glad it's on the way though!

Why??? Because it is not implemented yet. Doesn't look like it will ever be added either. They had rather put resources toward redoing the UI of commands that work just fine.
I recently attended a Gunslinger event in Novi Michigan with the Inventor developers. They had an all-day update for us of the changes that were being implemented for release 18 and beyond. On each of the screens they showed was a snapshot of the idea from the idea station. In other words, it seemed to me that about everything they are doing is from our ideas. I specifically asked about the threads in welded assemblies, and they said that it was in progress, the "story" line was being created. I also learned on several occasions from attended these events that simple changes to us have lots of complications on their part. And just like the rest of us they have limited resources and many challenges as well. They are implementing many things. I am sure the change will be here. The good news is that we don't have to wait for yearly releases.
@dan_butler_komatsu : The problem is that they do not use the software on a daily basis (9 hours +) in the manufacturing / designing field. I have a work around for this welding in machining environment, but it is very time consuming. You can also see the OP posted this idea in 2012, almost 6 years down the line and we are still waiting for it.
On another note did you see any dual monitor improvements? Im refering to your one comment: "On each of the screens they showed was a snapshot of the idea from the idea station"..

Hi JLetcher, The actual use is fairly simple. We make for instance cylinder rods, which are welded before machining. To follow the actual real parts path in Inventor this means a milling actions after we welded the cylinder eye to the rod. The rod gets external threads to fit into the piston. [cid:[email protected]] Except. I can't do it in Inventor. Other example: mounting plate assemblies with mounting pins with external threads milled into them. (high precision welded parts) Hope you no see its use.
