The feature that you are requesting is just part of the problem. In a weldment all the features that are available in a model editing should be available.
I would love to see a the "Thread" command in the weldment enviorment. Threading is often performed on parts after welding is done. I run into this limitation in Inventor at least once per week.
Yes this would be extremly helful. We have parts with glass fused to metal that are threaded after this process. If we use a derived part the glass turns to a solid instead of being clear (like glass). We also have dozens of parts that are threaded after welding.
Yea, I'm using 2014 and I cannot believe this is not available in assembly. It comes up very much at my place because machining a thread is a secondary operation which requires a different part number and drawing than the blank casted part. The blank casted part has an insert put in at casting. So thats one assembly. Then the assembly gets machined. I mean any material removal should be available in assembly.
I have another scenario where thread has to be used in an assembly:
Got a ballscrew and a screw. I have to order the ballscrew with the screw assembled. If you screw the ballscrew of the thread the bearing will pop out the ballscrew. So I have to cut/drill the screw with the ballscrew still attached on it. The last feature is getting thread on the screw, well it seems inventor doesn't support that. Is it me or is this not a basic action?
This really should be added to the weldment environment. I am designing a shaft that will be welded together. After the welding, oI just realized there needs to be threads on one end of the shaft. I could derive the part, but since this is already in my assembly, when I do this, I will lose all the assembly constraints. It would be so much easier to just be able to thread in the weldment.
