The ability to add text to a table setting ipart

Hello Created two user parameter: numeric and text.

They added to the sketch. Created engraving.

Why not add text to a table setting ipart to change the engraving details? Why it can not be eTsifry you can add, and the text can not. This greatly facilitates the work of creating designs ipart with different text engraved.

Oh ok, great tip, thanks! Really wish I could give that comment a kudo... Smiley Sad

HI Curtis,

Thanks for the video. Helps a lot.

However, I still hope Autodesk will support this directly instead of workaround.

Hello,

I have made an iPart following the video's example and everything updates in the iPart apporpriately. The problem I am having is when I try to then insert the iPart into an assembly and use two different cases, I end up with the exact same part even though in the browser tree the unique part numbers are used. It seems like the internal rule isn't firing before the part is placed. Is anyone else having this issue? Is there a work around for it?

@dan_szymanski, could the following ideas be merged?

Altogether, these Ideas request support for Text parameters in:

  • iParts
  • Derived parts
  • Cross-part parameter linking
  • Excel parameter linking
  • Exporting to iProperties

My hope is that, under the hood, all of these restrictions are linked, and fixing the root cause will fix them all. If that is not the case, then take it as my sincere plea that when it becomes time to prioritize and tackle one of these, the table is cleared enough to allow sufficient resources to fix ALL of them. Because we desperately Text parameters enabled in ALL of these areas, not just one or two. Smiley Happy

Thanks @DRoam,

The 8 Ideas cited above have been merged according to topic:

The remaining ideas reflect three areas [iproperties, iparts/iassemblies and sketch text (consumed by extrude/emboss)] that would have to be addressed separately.  You comment that these are all important is noted.  Thanks! -Dan

Hi Dan, thanks for merging those.

To me it seems like the last three you listed could be merged into one as well.

Definitely the fourth one could be merged into the second one. They're both asking fro the same thing, iPart table-driven text parameters. The fourth one adds the request for putting text parameters in sketch text, but that's already possible, so there's nothing that differentiates it from the second.

The third one is a little iffy because in the description the OP sort of mentions iProperties by mentioning Stock Number, but never expounds on that or explicitly makes iProperties in sketch text part of the request (which, unlike text parameters, currently ISN'T possible, and would be a valid request). However, this specific functionality is more explicitly requested in an Idea that I made here: Allow iProperties *and* Parameters in ALL text objects.

So other than that, the third one mainly discusses the need to control text using an iPart table, just like the second one.

So in my opinion those last three could be merged, since they're all asking for text parameter control in iPart tables. Unless you're interpreting something unique about them that I didn't catch!

I want to use text as a value for iParts so that I can change the stamping text without having to create copies of the text and adding them into the table.  I just want one text that I can change the value in the iPart or iAssembly.

The company I work for has many parts that would benefit from this addition!!

Hey Autodesk, just add this already. People have been asking for years and it gets extremely frustrating trying to do something really simple that is impossible.

Hello,

I want to introduce small innovation to CC Library.

Actual situation.

In CC library there is a possibility to create custom parameter. The parameter Example “Length” can be put by creating the new part from CC Library. The custom parameter needs to be numeric parameter (Number) It can’t be free text parameter.

Additionally, when Numeric parameter is "string" type parameter, then by updating the components in assembly, this number is sett back to default value which is set in the cc library.

I want to have “free text custom parameter - type real”. This text custom parameter should not be set to default value by updating the assembly with cc library.

Reason: I will use the example to explain the purpose of having such option.

We have filtrating system with automatic control system. In the system we have 25 same identical automatic valves. Every valve has its own unique TAG number. The TAG number is used on P&ID schema and in automatic software to control the process.

Example TAG DR201, DR021 ,01PR354. I have the valve 3D Model in my CC library there the valve has set some values like Description, size information ….

The valve description after generating from CC library will be Example: Control valve DN 25 (SAP-number) TAG DR021. In assembly I can use copy-paste 25 times and then only with option change size I can give every model unique TAG number.

  1. The first option for my “Custom TEXT parameter “is that it needs to be free text.  Example: “01RT320GR” currently in CC library not included.

     2. Additionally when I will make the mistake in some description parameter inside CC Library or the Description need to be change (Example : new Norm) then I don’t want to lose already existing information in my parts.

Example: Part have some spelling problems: “Burfly Valve DN 25 TAG 01BR36”. I need to correct the description in CC library and then update the assembly to correct the problem automatically by all "ipt" parts.

I made the correction in CC Library to “Butterfly valve” and then I update the assembly.  The TAG Number should not be change by updating the parts in assembly.

That kind of parameter will be very useful for designers and will expand the use of CC library in Inventor
