Tab management (Close all, close selected, close all except selected...)

Hello,

I think Inventor needs to implement better tab management - like web browsers.

• Close tab with mouse middle button
• Selecting more tabs with CTRL
• Selecting range of tabs with SHIFT
• Ability to close all tabs from context menu (right click on tab) (relevant idea)
• Ability to close all selected tabs
• Ability to close all tabs except selected (relevant idea)
• Multi-row tab bar
• CTRL+TAB tab switch to last active tab order (like alt+tab in Windows, it's pain to quickly navigate between two docs there and back,  when both are not visible on the tab bar)
• Show relevant tab when save prompt is displayed during closing (when you closing multiple tabs, lot of saving dialogs appears, but you see last active tab all the time, Storno cancels whole closing operation - all tabs stay opened)

Definitely would like some optimisation, thanks for the middle click to close, you learn something every day.

At the very least, let's have the tab management from AutoCAD ported over. I'd be fine with "close all" and "close all other drawings"

@j.pavlicekAha! well that's new to me, since I never, EVER close files from that menu, let alone use hardly any commands from that menu. It just is way too buried in the menus in my opinion. I'll get picky about it but I think being able to use it from the right-click menu in the tab bar would just make more sense.

Many thanks for posting this idea, and we would like to provide the updates about the requests below -

• Close tab with mouse middle button - Implemented in Inventor 2022.
• Ability to close all tabs from context menu (right click on tab) (relevant idea) - Implemented in Inventor 2021.2.
• CTRL+TAB tab switch to last active tab order (like alt+tab in Windows, it's pain to quickly navigate between two docs there and back,  when both are not visible on the tab bar) - You can get it in Inventor 2020, but it only work for the consistent order.

Please tell me how set it. I want to be able switch between files c3 and d1 there and back. Now I have to smash CTRL+TAB or (CTRL+SHIFT+TAB) several times.

Example:

Red numbers are order when was the tab last active. (d1.ipt was active before c3.ipt, ISO 10642-M8x10-8.8.ipt had been active before d1.ipt and so on)

Now when I want to skip to d1.ipt I have to smash CTRL+TAB 3 times

I'd like to simulate WIN+TAB behavior

So using CTRL+TAB repeatedly, could be used to switch between two last docs no matter on their mutual position on the tab bar.

@j.pavlicek, many thanks for the details, and it looks that we always need to remember the order of active tab, and can switch to the active tab based on the order. For the requirement you provide above, currently it does not support.
