this feature is search by an sheet metal industry,, they want to know when they design a cap of lamp what thickness are best so they don't need to trial and get some error ,,

i ever see it in SW maybe inventor can add this feature to solve the problem in sheet metal industry

thanks

Absolutely needed.  Even if the results contain a % error allowance for material behaviour.

No they just need to finish buying SPI instead of renting a section of it for unfolding..

SPI looks a nice tool for unrolling plate. It does not appear to address shell expansion.

This has just been added to SolidWorks 2015... just to add a bit more pressure to get it into Inventor.

yes surface development in inventor would be extremely helpfull!!

also once plate is developed it would be helpfull to get a plot of strain over the surface to check how easy it would be to develop/ if the plate needs to be subdivided.

This would be a great enhancement. I wonder if the ExactFlat guys would be keen to be acquired.

Hey Guys,

It would be good if the flatten surface feature is brought into Inventor . Already our competitors are having it for a long time eg: Solidworks ...

Please look at the below image

This idea has been implemented within Autodesk Inventor 2020. A new Unwrap command allows you to obtain a flat surface from any set of continuous faces. Unwrap lets you flatten nearly any shape into a surface that can be saved or exported in different formats. Special thanks to everyone who cast a vote for it.

@dan_szymanski Are there any plans to show the strain plot or be able to see what the calculated strain is for the generated surface?
